Ashland Ridge Announcements
"SILLY BANDS" AT SCHOOL
During the first weeks of school we have seen an increase in the number of students wearing "Silly Bands" during school and they are causing a disruption to the learning environment.  Due to these disruptions students will not be allowed to wear "Silly Bands" during school starting on Monday, September 13.  We appreciate your support of providing the best learning environment for all students!

Sincerely,
Mr. Moss

Facts About the School Dining System and PINs
A recent news story has suggested that Ankeny Schools are maintaining a database that records what kids buy for lunch and then checks their food against national nutrition guidelines.  Unfortunately, this story has combined several loosely related topics, giving the false impression of some form of “nutrition tracking system.”   Ankeny Schools are not tracking the nutritional properties of individual students’ meals.  In fact, little has changed from previous years, other than one element of the checkout process.  As parents and members of the community, we want to ensure you have factual information.   Read more about this story here...

District Breaks Ground on Ankeny Centennial High School
Before a crowd estimated at more than 300 members of the community, Ankeny district officials and special guests broke ground Wednesday, September 1 at the site of the new Ankeny Centennial High School.  The program included comments by the president of the Board of Education, the mayor, the president of the Chamber of Commerce, a representative of the Governor's office, and Congressman Leonard Boswell.  View photos and read more about the groundbreaking here...
Student Food Service PIN Numbers
The district nutritional program is implementing use of personal four-digit PIN numbers for students in grades K-5.  The PIN numbers will make serving lines more efficient and allow more time for students to focus on their lunch selections through our offer vs. serve program and daily salad bar. This will in turn accommodate increased meal choices and the relocation of our point-of-sale machine.

Ankeny School District Reaches 8,500 Student Mark
Just one year after welcoming its 8,000th student, the Ankeny Community School District has achieved another milestone in growth. At the annual kickoff for district faculty held on August 16, seventh grader Pierce Edwards was introduced as the 8,500th student.  Secondary school buildings are now larger than some small colleges in Iowa and the district is approaching the enrollment size of some larger colleges and institutions.  Read more here...
Elementary Classroom Size
As many parents in the district are aware, approximately 14% of our elementary classrooms have grown to over 27 students.  Board Policy 501.33 states that in cases such as this, class size may reach 29 with special accommodations as determined by administration. Classroom associates are currently providing assistance from their regularly assigned enrichment support time.  Read more about classroom size here...
